GS-Solar currently has a full team of research and development staff scientists, including a number of prominent thin film photovoltaic technology experts from China and abroad. Our senior management team sets the strategic direction for the advancement of our products and manufacturing processes. Our scientists and engineers closely collaborate across all of our facilities in Quanzhou where our manufacturing lines are located, in Beijing where we focus on equipment design and engineering, and in Tianjin where our efforts center on developing key thin film solar module processing technologies. We have also established active collaborations with the Photovoltaic Institute at Nankai University in Tianjin, a prominent research institution for thin film solar technologies in China.
Our research and development efforts concentrate principally on achieving highly reliable and high throughput production while lowering production cost per watt of solar electricity generated by systems using our solar modules, increasing conversion efficiency of our products, designing production equipment to meet our manufacturing needs, and developing and implementing more advanced process technologies as well as next-generation thin film photovoltaic modules.
We will continue to focus our research and development efforts in the following areas:
Enhance the quality and reliability of production equipment
All of our key production equipment are designed, developed and assembled by our in-house team of scientists, engineers and technicians, which enables us to tailor-make our equipment to best serve our technology objectives and quickly and effectively respond to evolving manufacturing requirements.
We have extensive experience in designing key equipment such as the vacuum coating systems for thin film silicon formation and electrode formation, to perform in a reliable, low maintenance, cost-efficient manner and on large scale.
Our existing production equipment is engineered to be compatible with future generation thin film photovoltaic technologies. We are actively modifying and improving our technology.
Optimize the manufacturing process
We are also focusing on optimizing the effectiveness, stability and productivity of our current manufacturing process. We will continue to formulate innovations to optimize our existing process, such as more advanced process control systems with better functionality and less complexity.
Improve the thin film module structure
We are developing next-generation double-junction and triple-junction thin film structures by introducing advanced light absorbing materials, such as amorphous silicon-germanium and nano-crystalline silicon, into the current absorption layer, so that the long-wavelength lights, such as red and infrared rays, are more fully absorbed and utilized.
