Manufacturing
We are able to leverage our strong in-house development capabilities relating to production equipment design and manufacturing process research to commercialize laboratory technologies and manufacture high-conversion-efficiency products on a large scale and at low cost. As such, we continue to expand our manufacturing capacity, streamline and optimize our manufacturing processes as well as enhance our process technologies. We also seek to design, fabricate and install customized production equipment optimal to our manufacturing processes that produce consistently high-efficiency products.
Production Equipment Design, Fabrication and Installation
A critical issue for successful commercialization of complex thin film solar technology is the ability to transfer technology that is demonstrated in the laboratory and in pilot production into high throughput, high efficiency and highly reliable module production. The key to address this issue is the design and continuous improvement of the production equipment and process. The foundation for GS-Solar’s thin film solar module operations is the close integration of our production equipment development efforts with the manufacturing process.
All of the key equipment we use in our manufacturing process, including the vacuum coating equipment and related control system, is designed, developed and assembled in-house at our Production Equipment Design & Engineering Center in Beijing, and then installed at our manufacturing plants in Quan Zhou. Our strengths in production equipment design, fabrication and installation enable us to add new production lines rapidly and cost effectively.
Manufacturing Process
The following diagram illustrates the manufacturing process of our thin film photovoltaic modules:
We subject each solar module to a number of solar simulator and current leakage tests at different stages of the manufacturing process to eliminate defective or substandard modules. Only those products that pass our final test can be shipped out to our customers.
